The tower, at 25 Old Broad St., is 95% leased. Tenants include Daewoo Securities, Meditor Capital Management and Pictet Asset Management. In addition to the 324,000-square-foot tower, the complex includes five other buildings comprising about 149,000 square feet. Jones Lang LaSalle has been hired to market the property.

Chris Darroch with Hermes Real Estate said the tower purchase would allow a buyer to make a substantial mark on the city landscape. "There is currently strong global interest in trophy assets in Central London, which should enable us to secure some interesting proposals for the Tower 42 Estate," he said in a statement.

The original name of the building was the National Westminster Tower, having been built to house National Westminster Bank. The tower was completed in 1980 and occupied a year later.
