At the beginning of the year CEO Wes Bush announced that Northrop was moving its headquarters here from Los Angeles to better serve its government and government-contractor customer base. Immediately, economic development agencies for the District, Maryland and Northern Virginia began vying for the plum site selection decision.

Northrop will open the new corporate office by summer 2011. The office will house approximately 300 people and will join an already-large local presence--divisions here include Northrop's corporate governance operations at Monday Properties' 1000 WilsonBlvd. in Rosslyn, VA; Northrop Grumman Information Technology at 7575Colshire Dr. in McLean, VA; Mission Systems at 12011 Sunset Hills Rd.in Reston, VA; and Electronic Systems at 1580-A West Nursery Rd.,outside of Baltimore, MD. Northrop is following the same path as Hilton Hotel and ScienceApplications International Corp., both of which decided in 2009 torelocate their California operations to the area.
