RUMLANG, SWITZERLAND-e-shelter has started construction on a 280,000-square-foot data center here, about 10 kilometers from Zurich. The company provides financial services and support to the information technology industry.
The new facility will have the highest standards in security, energy efficiency and availability, including LEED Platinum status, according to a company statement. The building will also have more than 20,000 square feet of offices. The completion date is set for summer 2011.
Rupprecht Rittweger, CEO and founder, said the demand for data center space in Europe has shown significant growth, with the Swiss market demonstrating signs of a lack of this offering. This new building “is set to meet the business needs of any corporate company looking for data center space near Zurich,” said Rittweger in a statement.
The company, based in Frankfort, has three other current locations in Munich, Hamburg and Berlin. The firm is also building a 400,000-square-foot, four-building data center complex on 50 acres in Buckinghamshire, England, to serve the London market.
