ANKARA, TURKEY-Arby’s Restaurant Group Inc. has formed a joint venture with locally-based company Tab Gida Sanayi ve Ticaret AS to open 100 of the restaurants in the country by 2020. Tab Gida also franchises more than 200 Burger King, Sbarro and Popeye’s in Turkey.
The venture will start out by opening 50 Arby’s throughout the country in the next five years, according to a Wendy’s/Arby’s Group Inc. statement. The Atlanta-based firm includes Wendy's International Inc., the franchisor of the Wendy's restaurant system, and Arby's Restaurant Group Inc., the franchisor of the Arby's restaurant system. The combined restaurant systems include more than 10,000 restaurants in the U.S. and 24 countries and territories worldwide.
"Our agreement with Tab Gida is another important step in our international growth strategy," said company President and CEO Roland Smith. "We're accelerating our international expansion opportunities by working with proven operators.”
Tab Gida, operating in the fast-food restaurant segment since 1995, owns or sub-franchises more than 430 restaurants in metropolitan areas throughout Turkey. The firm also recently purchased eight Arby’s franchise restaurants operated in the country by Celebi.
