It sounds like Men's Wearhouse is looking beyond suits and tuxedo rentals. The Houston-based company is set to launch a women's chain called -- what else? -- Women's Wearhouse, according to the New York Post.
The paper wasn't able to find out how many stores the retailer plans to roll out, but one source says "the initiative is major." More could be revealed today during the Men's Wearhouse quarterly conference call.
Post sources say that management is taking on the initiative in order to fuel growth. It already operates north of 1,200 of its namesake stores. The article also says that it is adding outlet stores to compete with rival JoS. A. Bank's push in that arena.
The outlet push certainly makes sense, but women's apparel? It seems like there is a TON of competition in this space and entering the fray right now seems a little strange. Will the strength Men's Wearhouse has in formal apparel translate in the Women's Wearhouse roll out?
