TYSONS CORNER, VA-KPMG LLP is moving part of its DC operations--375 positions--to its office here, taking an additional four floors at 1676 International Dr., owned by Brandywine Realty.

The Virginia Economic Development Partnership and Fairfax County Economic Development Agency offered incentives to secure the project for Virginia, including a $250,000 grant from the Governor’s Opportunity Fund to assist with the project and training assistance from the Virginia Department of Business Assistance. FCEDA is matching the state’s money with a $250,000 study.

Fairfax County Economic Development Authority president and CEO Jerry Gordon tells GlobeSt that the win for the county illustrates the submarket’s appeal despite the massive construction underway there. With four metro stations and new highway construction underway, he was concerned that companies would stay away to avoid the mess. However, that has not proven to be the case, he says. "Companies are looking past the construction to the end result," he says.

KPMG is not as big as some mandates the county has nabbed, but it is still a marquee name for Fairfax, Gordon says. "We make our living on perceptions and to be able to say that KPMG has moved to Fairfax is gold for us." Other recent wins for Fairfax County include SAICHilton and Northrop Grumman.
