NEW YORK CITY-With Gregory Hughes resigning as CFO of SL Green Realty Corp. effective at the end of this month, the office REIT has moved to replace him. Veteran financial executive James Mead will come on board at SL Green effective Dec. 1.
From 2004 until earlier this year, Mead served as CFO for Chicago-based hospitality REIT Strategic Hotels and Resorts. Earlier, he moved up the ladder at the Irvine Co., where he led the team that planned and executed the initial public offering for Irvine Apartment Communities.
Hughes similarly served as SL Green’s CFO for the past six years. During that time, the REIT’s the combined market capitalization has grown by more than 270% and total return to shareholders has exceeded 97%, according to a release. He’s leaving at the end of his contract Nov. 30 to pursue other professional interests, the release states.
“We’re thrilled to be able to bring in Jim Mead, a veteran executive with deep knowledge of REIT financial operations and a strong track record with other public companies,” SL Green CEO Marc Holliday says in a statement. “We anticipate a smooth transition, even as we lose one of the industry’s great CFOs.” He notes that Hughes has been a “key member” of SL Green’s executive team, adding, “We certainly wish him well in his next endeavor.”
