NEW YORK CITY-Capital markets veteran Gary H. Sherman is heading up an acquisitions business for Brook Partners as well as the firm’s newly opened New York City office, the Dallas-based operating company says in a release. Sherman joins the firm as chief investment officer, while Paul R. Smith is coming aboard as COO.

Sherman’s commercial real estate career spans a quarter century. During the early 1990s, he worked at Lennar Partners, a Morgan Stanley Real Estate Fund joint venture, acquiring and managing distressed real estate loans. Subsequently, he joined Apollo Real Estate Advisors, where he managed more than $2 billion of diverse real estate assets across the US.

Between 1996 and 2005, Sherman was managing director and principal at Euristates Inc., the US subsidiary France-based EURIS SA. There, he directed and actively managed all US real estate investment activities. In 2005, Sherman formed Townhouse Advisors, which developed a series of niche high-end residential projects in New York City.

In the release, Brook Partners CEO John Sughrue says Sherman “brings tremendous knowledge and capabilities to our firm during a time in which we are expanding rapidly. We are focusing now on establishing a robust principal acquisition business, and are delighted Gary will direct this initiative.”
