ZAGREB, CROATIA-An affiliate of New York City-based WP Carey & Co. LLC has purchased a portfolio of retail properties here for $64 million. The sites are all occupied by the supermarket Konzum.

The retail facilities comprise a six-property portfolio of supermarkets and hypermarkets mainly located here and in surrounding cities. The portfolio is leased by Konzum, an affiliate of Agrokor, a private company that is the country’s largest food producer, processor, distributor and retailer.

Jeffrey Lefleur, an executive director of WP Carey’s London office, said that this is the second such transaction in the past year with Agrokor. His firm acquired Agrokor’s office and logistic facilities in May for about $102 million. “This underlies our commitment to Eastern Europe,” he said in a statement.

Ivica Todoric, founder and president of Agrokor, said he is comfortable with WP Carey as a landlord. “We expect this relationship to strengthen as Agrokor grows in the markets of the southern portion of Eastern Europe and seeks alternative sources of capital for such expansion,” he said in the statement.
