WEST POTTSGROVE, PA-Carmike Cinemas will open a 46,000-square-foot theater here in the Upland Shopping Center. Construction is set to start in the fall, with a fall opening to follow.
Fameco Real Estate negotiated with the tenant on behalf of the owners, a joint venture between Cedar Shopping Centers and Tristate Ventures. The center, which opened in 2008, also counts Bed Bath & Beyond, Best Buy and Target among its anchors.
Columbus, GA-based Carmike currently operates 18 theaters in Pennsylvania. The company bills itself as the fourth-largest theater owner in the country, with 240 theaters in 36 states, making up just over 2,200 screens.
Late last year, Fameco added 190,000 square feet of tenants to Marple Crossroads Shopping Center in Springfield, bringing the center to 95% occupancy. Overall, the firm represents about 200 shopping centers that make up 17 million square feet.
Cedar, based in Port Washington, NY, owns 132 centers, with a large portion of its portfolio in Pennsylvania. Plymouth Meeting-based Tristate owns about 3.5 million square feet in Pennsylvania and New York.
