WASHINGTON, DC-The Urban Land Institute has tapped Peter S. Rummell as incoming chairman of the organization. A member since 1983, Rummell is principal of Rummell Co., based in Jacksonville, FL. Also a longtime ULI trustee and former chairman of the ULI Foundation, Rummell will start his two-year voluntary term on July 1. He replaces outgoing chairman Urban Jeremy Newsum.
Rummell, 65, began his 40-year development career at the Sea Pines Company in Hilton Head, SC, working for industry legend Charles Fraser. He later became president of the Disney Development Co. and chairman of Walt Disney Imagineering, where he guided such developments as Celebration, FL. He was also chairman and CEO of the St. Joe Co.
Rummell’s land-use expertise will be important to ULI, said ULI CEO Patrick L. Phillips in a prepared statement. “Peter obviously ‘gets’ ULI; he’s a recognized leader in the business, especially at the intersection between the creative and pragmatic aspects of real estate development and investment.” Rummell was not immediately available for an interview.
