INDIANAPOLIS-White Lodging, based in Merrillville, IN, has opened the 1,005-room JW Marriott Indianapolis Downtown, the largest of the brand in the world. The hotel completes the Marriott Place project, a $450 million set of five connected Marriott hotels here that are a catalyst to the downtown’s growth.

At 375 feet tall and 34 stories high, the hotel is the tallest in the state. The property also includes 54 meeting rooms and 104,000 square feet of event space, along with a 40,500-square-foot ballroom. Two restaurants are also featured, including a patio with an outside bar and fire pit.

The entire Marriott Place complex, with a total of 2,248 rooms, is along a 7-acre site overlooking the White River State Park. The hotels include the JW, the Courtyard by Marriott Indianapolis Downtown, a Springhill Suites, a Fairfield Inn & Suites and the Marriott Indianapolis Downtown. The hotels all connect to the renovated and expanded Indiana Convention Center, and other downtown properties and Simon Property Group’s Circle Centre mall through the city’s maze of indoor skywalk.

Michael Browning, chairman of the Indianapolis Convention and Visitors Association, said in a statement that White Lodging is helping the city market the downtown for new business. “The Marriott Place Indianapolis hotel complex is an integral component to the city’s overall strategic tourism growth,” Browning said. “The Indiana Convention Center’s recent expansion, a new airport, new stadium hosting the Super Bowl, and now touting the world’s largest JW Marriott—Indianapolis has arrived on the national tourism scene and is the envy of destinations across the nation.”
