BETHESDA, MD-Some three months after it went public, and days before its first earnings call, Walker & Dunlop will be included on the preliminary list of IPO additions to the Russell 2000 and Russell 3000 indexes, effective March 31, 2011.

The inclusion is a routine event for a firm that has gone public, but it is still is a plus for the company’s shareholders and clients. The stock price will likely be goosed somewhat as purchases of its shares increase. Other than that, Willy Walker, president and CEO, tells me, it is business as usual. “Investment strategy, market outlook--all the same.”

The Russell 3000 index measures the stock performance of the 3,000 largest US companies based on total market capitalization. The Russell 2000 index is a subset of the Russell 3000 and measures the performance of the 2,000 smallest companies in the Russell 3000 index. These indexes are reconstituted annually in June.
