EDISON, NJ–i/o Data Centers is planning what it is calling the world’s largest modular data center, an 830,000-square-foot facility known as “i/o New Jersey.” The facility will replace the former New York Times printing and warehouse operation here.

The center is the third for Phoenix-based i/o, a digital technology, design and engineering company. The other centers are in Phoenix and Scottsdale, AZ. Terms for the long-term lease were not disclosed, but industrial rents in the area range from $3.25 per square foot to $12 per foot for flex space, according to LoopNet.

Located off Exit 10 of the New Jersey Turnpike, the building was chosen after a two-year search, says Peter Yannotta, senior vice president of UGL Services’ Iselin office. Yannotta and VP James Cali of Technology Services represented the tenant.

The building was selected “for the robust power and fiber in the immediate area,” a UGL spokesperson tells GlobeSt.com. Design and preconstruction work are under way.

The data center will provide users with immediate capacity, fiber-optic connectivity from two of the largest IP backbones in the world.  The facility is located adjacent to one of the largest and most robust power switching stations in the Northeast Region.

Jones Lang LaSalle managing director Rob Kossar of the Hasbrouck Heights, NJ office represented the building owner, KTR Capital Partners.
