CARLSBAD, CA-Terramar Retail Centers has named Matthew Smith to the newly created position of VP for acquisitions to source deals in the Western US. Terramar president and CEO Stephen Bowers says that Smith, who comes to Terramar with more than eight years of experience in Western US shopping center acquisitions on behalf of private and institutional investors, will lead the company’s acquisition efforts by sourcing, analyzing, structuring and closing the firm’s acquisitions in the West. Bowers cites “increasing deal flow in our target markets” as one of the reasons for creating the new position and naming Smith to the post.

Before joining Terramar, Smith served as senior vice president of acquisitions at Centennial Real Estate Co., where he oversaw the firm’s acquisition activities. Centennial is a Dallas-based company investing with institutional capital partners in retail centers in Western and Southwestern US. Before Centennial, Smith held senior acquisition roles at CenterCal Properties, a California-based shopping center developer and operator, and at JAH Realty LP, a Texas/Oklahoma-based real estate developer and operator. He began his career at AEW Capital Management, a Boston-based real estate investment manager. Smith holds a bachelor of science degree in management from the Wallace E. Carroll School of Management at Boston College and an MBA from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College.
