NEW YORK CITY-GlobeSt.com’s viewers aren’t holding their breath waiting for Donald Trump to decide on making a bid for the White House, judging by the results of our recent poll. With nearly 900 responses, the poll asked, “Would You Vote for Donald Trump?” And 71% of you agreed with the statement “Hell no. It’s just a grab for headlines.”
The owner, developer and reality-TV show host got a thumbs-up from just 16% of viewers, who felt that Trump was “savvy and can set us straight.” Another 13% wanted to know more about his possible candidacy before making a decision. News of the poll traveled beyond the universe of GlobeSt.com viewers. Both the Los Angeles Times and Reuters reported on the industry’s apparent lack of enthusiasm for a Trump presidential bid, based on the poll results. The Times story cited the criticism Trump had gotten from Republican leaders over his focus on the question of whether President Barack Obama was born in the US, and noted that GlobeSt.com’s readers appeared to be evenly divided between Democrats and Republicans, “although with an anti-Washington bent.”
The Reuters story noted that the survey showed Trump’s industry peers to be “pretty cynical when it comes to the billionaire magnate’s potential run for the White House.” Reuters noted that while anyone coming to the site could vote in the poll, only one vote was accepted per IP address.
According to published reports, Trump plans to hold off on announcing a possible 2012 candidacy until after the season finale of his Celebrity Apprentice series airs on May 22. When the Times story ran last week, it cited the most recent poll by NBC and the Wall Street Journal which found Trump tied for second place with former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee among possible Republican contenders for the White House. The front runner was former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney. To date, only former House Speaker Newt Gingrich has formally declared his candidacy.
