WASHINGTON, DC-The Building Owners and Managers Association International’s multi-day conference kicked off on Sunday at Gaylord National, one of the largest convention resort developments on the East Coast, located at National Harbor, MD. Among the first orders of business was the announcement that Boyd R. Zoccola, executive vice president of Hokanson Cos., has been named chair and chief elected officer of the organization. He was sworn in Sunday at the 2011 BOMA International conference and the Every Building Show in Washington, DC. Zoccola’s term runs through June 2012.
A twenty-year veteran of the commercial real industry, Zoccola joined Hokanson in 1989 and went on to develop and assist in the development of more than $500 million of real estate. He has been involved in BOMA International in a number of ways, having served for four years on the BOMA International Executive Committee and six years on the Finance Committee. He was president of BOMA/Indianapolis from 2007-2009.
The show itself is already shaping up to be a memorable one for participants. Peter DallePezze, vice president of Product and Marketing LED Lighting Systems Division, tells GlobeSt.com that the networking opportunities are far greater than he imagined. “This is our first BOMA show and at first we were worried we were bringing too many people,” DallePezze says. “But now I am starting to worry we didn’t bring enough--there have been so many leads and opportunities already that we want to follow up with.”
Another theme DallePezze notes, is the focus by many participants--and exhibiting vendors--on energy savings. “We are seeing a lot of new technologies in that space. This is an exciting time for our industry.”
