NEW YORK CITY-CB Richard Ellis has promoted Matt Van Buren to president, New York Tri-State Region a little over two months after Mitchell Rudin left CBRE to join Brookfield Office Properties to serve as president and CEO of US commercial operations.
As GlobeSt.com reported, Van Buren had been filling Rudin’s spot on an interim basis, though Tuesday’s announcement made it official.
“Obviously I’m gratified by the confidence that Mike Lafitte, the president of our Americas business, has put in me,” Van Buren tells GlobeSt.com. “He was following our well-established succession plan here, so my appointment is the result of a thoughtful process at CBRE.”
Van Buren outlined three areas of focus for his new role: building on the past successes CBRE’s tri-state pool of talent has generated, developing future talent and focusing on anticipating clients’ needs.
Van Buren came to CBRE in 2006 and had most recently served as executive managing director for the firm’s Midtown Manhattan division, additionally tasked with managing operations at the 200 Park Ave. headquarters. As part of the promotion, he will join CBRE’s America’s Executive Committee.
With the financial markets currently in chaos, it may be the anticipation of ever-evolving client needs that takes a large chunk of his time.
“Our financial markets are up and down in this most recent cycle,” he says. “We’re more so than ever focused on anticipating our client’s needs and continuing in our role as a strategic advisor in their real estate matters.”
