The possibility of a double dip; the impact of the global financial crisis; the availability of distress product. It’s really not surprising that these issues, all on the docket during last year’s Transwestern/Real Estate Forum Institutional Investor Symposium, were resurrected once again at the 2011 edition of the event. No surprise there. The snail’s pace of recovery and (as our panelists pointed out) the administration’s fumbling of a solution, have kept much of the country in a 12-month holding pattern.
The 15th annual Symposium, held recently in Washington DC’s Sofitel Lafayette Square, brought together some of the most notable names in the institutional investment arena to discuss the challenges that absorb them in this ever-slow-to-pick-up recovery. But these professionals didn’t get to where they are by hiding under the bed in times of trouble, and they certainly haven’t shied away from opportunity.
