ROCKVILLE, MD-The US Department of Health and Human Services has decided it will remain in its quarters in Twinbrook, a submarket here. As part of the 15-year agreement it is inking with landlord JBG Cos., the building, located at 5600 Fishers Lane, will be renovated.

“For nearly 40 years, HHS has anchored the Twinbrook neighborhood,” said Rod Lawrence, partner with JBG, in a prepared statement. “We are excited to offer them a sustainable and architecturally significant trophy asset as their home for the next 15 years.” The Twinbrook submarket is getting a further boost with plans by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases to build a 491,000-square foot headquarters across the street from HHS. JBG Cos. procured that deal as well.

The 18-story HHS building’s renovation will include a curtain wall re-skin, all new building systems and the construction of a 14-story atrium. The construction is being designed to LEED Gold specs. It is expected to deliver in 2014.
