There is, of course, a retail angle to this Hurricane Irene story. Some reports have Home Depot, Lowe's, Walmart and others doing brisk sales because of the impending storm.

People are buying generators, water by the swimming pool and various other supplies. After all, millions could be left without power in the wake of Irene.

So the upside for the industry is that sales could get a spike for a few days. However, will this offset the potential damage being done to stores by the hurricane?

Not to cheapen the overall impact of this potential disaster, but do you think this is going to help or hurt retailers overall?
