SAN ANTONIO-HVHC Inc. has taken more than 100,000 square feet at IBC Centre I, effectively leasing close to 40% of the 280,000 square-foot CBD office building. HVHC, the parent company of vision entities such as EyeMasters, is taking space fort is national headquarters that once belonged to AT&T.
According to the San Antonio Business Express, the company signed a 10-year lease and should move into its new digs at 175 E. Houston St. by Christmas. The Express also reports that the city of San Antonio helped spearhead the move by kicking in an incentives package (including parking subsidies) worth $2.9 million over 10years.
Part of the reason for the move was because the company had outgrown its current location at 11103 West Ave., north of the city. The Express reports David Holmberg, HVHC president and CEO as saying that the new space will allow the headquarters to grow and add jobs.
Along with the move, the company plans to consolidate its 15 national brands under a single name, VisionWorks Inc. A flagship retail site for the newly branded company open on the ground floor of IBC Centre I. The move is expected to bring more than 350 jobs downtown, including 100 new positions when one of the brands, Davis Vision, relocates from Long Island, NY.
IBC Centre has suffered from low occupancy after AT&T announced its relocation to Dallas during the summer of 2008. AT&T’s lease expired on July 1 of this year.
