WASHINGTON, DC-The Kiplinger organization, a local business publisher, is subleasing 21,000 square feet of space from the Associated Press in a building near Franklin Square. West, Lane & Schlager’s Rich Lane and Matt Levin negotiated the five-year lease at 1100 13th St., NW--the Franklin Square North building.
Kiplinger is taking almost the entire seventh floor, which the Associated Press used to occupy. The Associated Press continues to be the largest tenant in the building.
Prudential Real Estate owns Franklin Square North, a 12-story, 270,000-square-foot building that is home to several additional media companies, including WestLaw, Hearst Television and broadcast agencies based in China, Germany and the Middle East.
Kiplinger has been headquartered at 1729 H St., NW, in the Editors Building, for the past 61 years. The publisher developed the building in 1950 for its own use. It recently sold it to OTO for conversion to a hotel. Among the reasons--the building’s traditional layout no longer suited Kiplinger’s work flow needs. West, Lane & Schlager did not return a call to GlobeSt.com in time for publication.
