WASHINGTON, DC-Leases at buildings under construction, defense contractor leases and small bread-and-butter leases. After a break from business last week, the Washington-area commercial real estate market is clearly back at work, with these deals, and others, getting inked.

Most notable is the 21,605-square-foot lease that the National Association of Chain Drug Stores signed with Skanska for its 1776 Wilson Blvd. project now under construction in Rosslyn.

The trade association will occupy space on the second floor beginning in October 2012. Skanska USA Commercial Development acquired the site in May 2010, and is self-financing the 108,000-square-foot building’s development costs. The project is on track to deliver in Summer 2012.

At the Aberdeen Proving Ground in Hartford County, MD, Boeing’s Electronic and Mission Systems Division has signed a lease with St. John Properties for an additional 26,000 square feet of space at its Government and Technology Enterprise project, a 416-acre business community located within Aberdeen Proving Ground. Boeing will occupy 6200 Guardian Gateway, a three-story, 75,000-square-foot building.

In the District, the Ezra Co. has negotiated new long-term leases on behalf of the American Meteorological Society and Compass Solutions, both of which are currently housed at 1120 G St., NW but are planning moves to new offices. The American Meteorological Society will relocate to 1200 New York Ave., NW, where it will occupy 10,122 square feet on the fourth and fifth floors—an increase from its current 8,000 square feet at 1120 G St., NW. Information-technology firm Compass Solutions has inked a 1,587-square-foot lease at 1401 K St., NW.
