SAN ANTONIO-In its first local project, Criterion Property Co. LP has joined forces with Regent Communities to build the 230-unit 1800 Broadway. The luxury apartment project, adjacent to the Pearl Brewery, has a summer 2013 completion date.
Criterion president and principal Pretlow Riddick tells GlobeSt.com that the joint venture located at Broadway and Grayson streets recently bought acreage that once held abandoned buildings. “The seller had torn down the older structures,” he adds.
Upon completion, 1800 Broadway will offer a combination of one- and two-bedroom units as well as townhouses. The units will range in size from 550 sf to 1,600 sf for the apartment units, with townhouses clocking in at around 1,800 square feet.
Riddick acknowledges that his company is looking for more building opportunities throughout Texas, most notably, Dallas, Austin and San Antonio. The company also has projects under construction in Boston, MA. 1800 Broadway makes the ideal location, Riddick comments, because it backs up against the Pearl Brewery, which has seen a lot of development and interest in recent years.
The Pearl Brewery, once home to a local manufacturer of beer, is now a mixed-used 22-acre project being developed by Silver Ventures. The project is located along San Antonio’s Riverwalk.
