NEW YORK CITY-Gary Barnett, a New York developer, is building Manhattan's tallest residential tower that features a five-star hotel and penthouses. The $1.4-billion project, located across from Carnegie Hall, has already reached nearly 50 floors above the ground level.

The 90-floor building, called One57, is expected to be completed in 2013. Barnett persuaded two investment funds in Abu Dhabi to support the project, while Extell Development Co., Barnett's company, is placing in less than 10% of the approximately $700 million in equity.
