COSTA MESA, CA-Senior executives from two of the largest landowners in Orange County—the Irvine Co. and Rancho Mission Viejo—and homebuilders Ryland Homes and Shea Homes are entering the boxing ring on November 9, 2012, to raise funds for HomeAid Orange County. The first-ever “Fight For A Cause” event will take place at 6 p.m. at Urban Arena, 3195 Red Hill Ave., here in Costa Mesa.
All of the proceeds from the event will be donated directly to HomeAid Orange County to build doorways of hope for children and families. According to Scott Larson, executive director of HomeAid Orange County, based in Irvine, “The idea of stepping into a ring for most people is outside their comfort zone, and this is what makes it such an exciting challenge.”
The event will feature six boxing matches, including four professional fights. Getting into the ring before the professionals are four of Orange County’s most prominent real estate executives. In one match highlighting community development executives, Dave Conley from the Irvine Co. will face Paul Johnson from Rancho Mission Viejo. That match will be followed by one featuring homebuilding presidents Richard Douglas of Ryland Homes and Bob Yoder of Shea Homes.
“It’s a fantastic experience to get in the ring, especially when these guys have never done anything like this before,” notes Michael Schrock, chief executive officer of Urban Arena, in a prepared statement. Schrock, who is hosting the fundraising event, says it is “a great opportunity to raise much-needed funds for HomeAid OC and, hopefully, have a lot of fun.”
