CHICAGO-Accounting firm Grant Thornton LLP is moving its headquarters to 137,000 square feet at 161 N. Clark St. in a deal that includes naming rights at the 50-story, 1.1-million-square-foot office building. According to a report in Chicago Real Estate Daily, the lease will commence in 2015, and means the office building, owned by Tishman Speyer LP, will be 95% occupied.
The article says Grant Thornton will move from 175 W. Jackson Blvd., where it currently occupies approximately 135,000 square feet. Though the company also leases space in west suburban Oakbrook Terrace and northwest suburban Schaumburg, it's uncertain if those spaces will be impacted by the downtown lease. Grant Thornton has been headquartered in the CBD since 1924.
Chicago Real Estate Daily notes that the lease is good news for New York-based Tishman Speyer, because Grant Thornton fills a huge hole left when Chicago Title relocated last month from 161 North Clark to 10 S. LaSalle St. Chicago Title had been an initial tenant and even the namesake for the 20-year-old office building, which was known as Chicago Title Tower. But as the company, an affiliate of Fidelity National Financial, it reduced its footprint and space, the building eventually became known as 161 North Clark.
