MIAMI-After having reversed six straight years of construction starts declines in 2012, the outlook for construction this year in Miami-Dade is cautiously optimistic, according to a report in The Miami Herald.
The newspaper reports that the construction industry, which posted 62 consecutive months of job losses in Miami-Dade, is expected to add jobs in 2013. Commercial construction is picking up, especially in Miami's new urban core.
A big reason for the somewhat bullish outlook is the work now underway at Brickell CityCentre, a 5 million-sf mixed use project that broke ground last June. The $1.05-billion endeavor will feature retail, restaurants, a hotel, office towers and condominiums. In Brickell, three new condominium projects are also under construction.
Tom Murphy Jr., chairman and CEO of Miami builder Coastal Construction, told The Miami Herald, “We're going to see a lot of cranes popping up in the first and second quarter and a year from now, we're going to see cranes all over the skyline. See story in The Miami Herald.
