NEWARK, NJ-With the House of Representatives passing the first $9.7 billion in Hurricane Sandy relief last week, the big question remains whether the remaining $51 billion in expected funding will be approved later this month, a Star Ledger report states.
The $9.7 billion will replenish the National Flood Insurance Program, which would have depleted its funding this week and delayed 115,000 claims. House Republicans and Democrats are divided over whether the additional $51 billion in funding requested by states impacted by Sandy is inflated or not. A vote on the additional funding could come for a vote by Jan. 15.
Rep. Jon Runyan (R-3rd district) said after the House approved the $9.7 billion in initial aid, “With today's bi-partisan vote, I an hopeful that the second part of the emergency supplemental funding bill will easily pass on Jan. 15.” See story in the Star-Ledger.
