PARAMUS, NJ-Garden State Plaza has begun construction on a $130-million project that will replace a parking deck and add new retail space to the development.
The project will add approximately 80,000 sf of space inside the mall, including 50,000 sf of retail space for about 20 new stores. According to a report in The Record, the new stores, when leased, would bring the mall's tenant roster to near 300, but would not add significantly to the mall's leasing area of about 2.1 million sf. The new retail space is expected to be completed by the spring of 2014.
The four-level parking deck adjacent to the Neiman Marcus store will be torn down and replaced by a five-level deck with a speed ramp by this November. Demolition of the parking deck is expected to take place soon. See story in The Record.
