BLOOMINGDALE, NJ-Passaic County freeholders are debating whether to allocate dwindling public funds on open space purchases or for park improvement projects in urban areas.

Passaic County freeholders have asked the public for its input on the future of the Passaic County Open Space Fund. A public hearing has already been held in Hawthorne. The remaining public hearings, according to a report in The Record, are set to begin at 7 p.m. tonight at the Bloomingdale municipal building; Jan. 22 at Clifton City Hall; Jan. 24 at the county planning and economic development office in Totowa; and Jan. 31 at the Woodland Park municipal building.

While environmental groups have applied for a host of open space purchases, cities, such as Paterson, Clifton and Passaic, are seeking funding for park improvement initiatives in their respective cities. See story in The Record.
