ELMONT, NY-While some local hockey fans my bristle at the news, there will be a new stadium built on Long Island, but it will be in Elmont not Uniondale.
The New York Cosmos soccer team is set to announce that it will build a $400-million stadium at Belmont Park, according to multiple published reports. The project will also include a 175-room hotel, restaurants and retail. The new stadium will seat 25,000 for the team that is a member of the North American Soccer League and will be built on the south lot of the storied racetrack.
Fans of the New York Islanders hockey team recently learned that the franchise would be moving out of the Nassau Coliseum and into the Barclay's Center in Brooklyn in 2015. See story in the New York Post.
