MIAMI-The Miami Dolphins planned $400-million renovation plan for Sun Like Stadium got a shot in the arm as the Miami Dade Commission voted to urge state lawmakers to pass legislation key to the project.
The commissioners in a 9-4 vote approved a non-binding proposal asking state lawmakers to approve a bill that would create state and local subsidies for the renovation, according to the Miami Herald.
The Dolphins are asking to increase the Miami-Dade mainland hotel tax from 6% to 7%, which requires state approval. The NFL team is also looking for a $3 million a year subsidy from the state. If approved, the Dolphins would have taxpayers pay about half of the estimated $400 million project cost. See story in the Miami Herald.
