DORAL, FL-The Doral City Council will be holding a special council meeting tonight to discuss the ongoing dispute between neighbors the Trump Doral Resort & Spa and nearby homeowners.
Specifically, residents of the adjoining Fairway Homes of Doral have complained to city officials about noise from construction and maintenance crews and that tree plantings at the resort that have blocked their golf course views. According to the Miami Herald, the city held a general council meeting on the topic on Jan. 9. The session tonight, according to the newspaper report, is to address possible legal remedies the city might take.
“The City of Doral has taken an aggressive stance against the Doral Golf Resort concerning the noise violations that have been occurring,” said Albert P. Childress, the director of the city's code compliance department.
A series of meetings between the city and resort officials have been held in 2011 and in 2012 with the Trump Organization after it purchased the property. In November of last year an emergency Special Magistrate hearing was held which cited the Doral Golf Resort with 19 violations of the noise ordinance that included a total fine of $28,500. That order has been appealed, according to the newspaper.
Ed Russo, a project consultant at the Doral Resort & Spa, says the resort has been following the same maintenance schedule as the resort's previous owners. “I'm not sure how anybody can hear any of our lawn equipment when the jets are flying right over your head and the shooting range is right around the corner. I don't know how anyone can hear our lawn equipment with all that noise.”
Regarding the tree planting blocking views of the golf course, Russo adds, “We are getting conflicting statements from homeowners.” See story in the Miami Herald.
