WASHINGTON, DC-President Barack Obama is considering a number of executive actions to bypass Congress, which could include new homeowner refinancing assistance, some building efficiency standards, and tougher regulations on power plants.
Although the administration has not revealed when the President would institute the new executive actions, he is considering a new homeowner-refinancing plan. The new initiative would extend the opportunity for those who are underwater but current on their privately-backed mortgages, but have not been eligible for assistance up till now, according to the Washington Post.
The President may also expand the Better Buildings Initiative that looks to hire workers to rehab federal and privately-owned buildings to make them more efficient. In addition, he is said to be considering having the Environmental Protection Agency issue new rules governing carbon emissions by existing power plants. Some of these initiatives may be highlighted during President Obama's State of the Union address tomorrow. See story in the Washington Post.
