FORT MEADE, MD-Picerne Military Housing, a division of Corvias Group, broke ground last week on a $72 million, 432-unit apartment building that will accommodate single service members. The project, called Reece Crossings, is the first ever public-private partnership with the US Army to build a multifamily project.
The Army suggests this could be a model that may well be replicated, especially if sequestration takes place and is not lifted. "If the budget cuts posed by sequestration become a reality, the quality of life for our soldiers, sailors, airmen, marines and coast guardsmen will be in serious jeopardy," said Katherine Hammack, Assistant Secretary of the Army for Installations, at the groundbreaking. "Partnerships, like that with Picerne, will become critical in the future as we become more dependent on the private sector and the communities in which we have military bases."
The 14-building apartment community will offer 48 1,126 square foot one-bedrooms plus den and 384 1,186 square foot two-bedroom apartments.
