MOONACHIE NJ-The Obama administration warns that about 9% of Superstorm Sandy relief aid could be cut this year and as much as $3 billion in storm assistance over the next 10 years if automatic spending cuts are instituted.

The automatic federal program spending cuts, known as the sequester, will involve significant cuts to vital and minor federal programs. The deadline for Congress to prevent the automatic spending cuts is this Friday, according to The Record.

Moonachie Mayor Dennis Vaccaro says the federal funding reductions will set back the borough and residents.

“They're playing with people's lives when they do things like this,” Vaccaro said. “It took a long time to put this money in place. It gave a lot of people a lot of hope, and here we go again.” See story in The Record.
