ROSELAND, NJ-Home building permit filings in New Jersey were up a whopping 84% in January and have reached levels last attained five years ago.
The latest building permit figures released by the US Census Bureau indicate that builders received approvals for 1,752 units in January, up from 950 approvals recorded a year earlier.
“It was the best start of any year since 2007," said Patrick O'Keefe, an economist with CohnReznick, an accounting firm with an office in Roseland.
More than 60% of New Jersey's January permits were for multi-family projects. Some of the permits were for the construction of new homes to replace those lost from Hurricane Sandy. See story in The Record.
