WASHINGTON, DC-Canadian developer The Walton Group is floating a plan to build a five-mile bus rapid transit system to help persuade the FBI to relocate its headquarters to its Westphalia Town Center project.
The Walton Group acquired the 479-acre Westphalia Town Center project in February 2012 and executives with the firm say the company plans to begin construction this month on the first phase of its development project along Pennsylvania Avenue near Andrews Air Force Base, according to the Washington Post.
Walton CEO Bill Doherty says the BRT system, which could service Andrews Air Force Base as well as the FBI, could cost as high as $75 million to build. The first phase of the Westphalia Town Center project will feature 347 town homes, more than 400 apartments, 450,000 square feet of retail and a 150-room hotel. See story in the Washington Post.
