CHICAGO-The city's pubic school system is requesting bids from commercial brokerage firms to help sell its headquarters building at 125 Clark St.
Chicago Public Schools officials are looking to move out of the headquarters building in the Loop in order to help trim a projected $1-billion budget deficit, according to the Chicago Tribune.
“We are exploring every option possible to consolidate resources and reduce spending downtown so we can continue to invest directly in students and their education,” says Chicago Public Schools CEO Barbara Byrd-Bennett.
The district acquired the 20-story building that formerly housed Commonwealth Edison in 1998 for $8.2 million. Chicago Public Schools' spokeswoman Becky Carroll says that if the property cannot be sold, the district will look to lease the building. See story in the Chicago Tribune.
