MIAMI-Communities such as Miami Springs, Medley and Virginia Gardens are seeking to annex land adjacent to Miami International Airport.
After their annexation bids were rebuffed in 2010 by the Miami Dade County Planning Advisory Board, the three cities are taking another shot at annexation.
“The long-term push to annex the light industrial areas along with our western border is again on track, with a county commission vote anticipated for this spring,” according to a mailer sent out on March 2 to residents of those communities.
“The municipalities involved want to add to their tax bases,” says Tom David, president of the Airport West Business Association. “This is all about extracting tax revenue from voiceless property owners.” See story in the Miami Herald.
