NEW YORK CITY-The Bloomberg administration broke ground on Monday on the first phase of the massive Hunter's Point South project in Long Island City.
The first phase of the development will total 925 units in two 30-story towers. Hunter's Point South when finished will feature 5,000 apartment units and will be the largest such housing development built since Co-Op City was developed and completed 40 years ago.
The Related Cos., who has partnered with Phipps Houses and Monadnock Construction, won the contract to build the first phase of Hunter's Point South after the city had issued an RFP.
The Bloomberg administration will seek a developer for the second phase involving another 1,000 rental units when it releases an RFP to interested development firms next month. See story in Crain's New York Business.
