ROSSLYN, VA-Rosslyn's geographic creds got the nod in a recent lease Monday Properties inked for one of its buildings in the submarket. Sikorsky Aircraft Corp., a wholly owned subsidiary of United Technologies Corp., is joining another UTC subsidiary, Goodrich Corp., in occupying 12,250 square feet at 1000 Wilson Blvd. What is notable about the transaction is that Sikorsky is moving its lobbying operations from the District to Rosslyn.
"We have had a good, long-term relationship with Goodrich and began discussions with them about expanding a while ago," Monday Properties' John Wharton tells GlobeSt.com. Goodrich's acquisition by UTC some six months ago introduced a new element of strategic planning into the mix and the company decided to move its lobbying group out of DC to join Goodrich in Rosslyn. Each subsidiary will occupy roughly half of the space, Wharton says.
Yes, it is unusual for a lobbying operation to not be close to the Capitol or K Street, but Rosslyn is a straight 15-minute shot into the District, Wharton adds. "This deal was about operational efficiencies and location, but more so it was about us being flexible with the tenant, canceling their other lease and being able to give them this new space," Wharton concludes.
