NAPERVILLE, IL – The City Council on Tuesday granted approval for the controversial Water Street mixed use project here that will feature a hotel, retail and parking garage.

The council by a 7-2 margin approved the revised plan that lowered building heights. The proposal now calls for a 166-room boutique hotel, 524-space parking garage, restaurants, shops, offices and a plaza, according to the Chicago Tribune.

The development proposed by the Marquette Companies is targeted for a 2.4-acre site bounded by Aurora Avenue on the south, the DuPage River on the north, Main Street on the east and Webster Street on the west.

“This exciting and high quality development will further invigorate downtown Naperville and solidify its economic vitality and prosperity for years to come,” says Jeff Prosapio of the Marquette Companies. An official with the developer says the firm hopes to begin construction on the project later this year. See story in the Chicago Tribune.
