SOMERSET, NJ-MetLife, Inc., which announced yesterday it was accepting $90 million in incentives to move some operations to North Carolina, will close its Somerset office here as part of the consolidation plan.

MetLife will close a facility in the Somerset section of Franklin Township as part of its broader plan to consolidate 2,600 jobs across the country to two new sites in North Carolina, according to The Record.

North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory announced on Thursday that MetLife, Inc. will open two new campus in Cary and Charlotte that will create 2,600 jobs in the state. The insurer is eligible to receive an economic development package worth more than $90 million,

The number of jobs leaving New Jersey due to the consolidation was not immediately known, says MetLife spokesman John Calagna. The moves will affect administrative positions for the insurer's retail business and information technology workers that will be relocated in phases between now and 2015. The insurer will retain a significant number of workers in Bridgewater and Morristown, Calagna adds. See story in The Record.
