EL PASO-Alamo Drafthouse Cinemas, headquartered in Austin, is opening its first location in El Paso. The location will boast nine screens and is serving as the anchor tenant for the retail component of Montecillo Town Center, a 300-acre mixed-use development on North Mesa Street.
According to a press release, the entertainment venue will open with help from franchise partner Triple Tap Ventures LLC (owner and operator of the Houston-area Alamo Drafthouse Cinema theaters) and EPT Land Communities, which is developing Montecillo Town Center. Alamo Drafthouse Cinema Montecillo will also present special outdoor events and programming to be hosted in Montecillo's public spaces, such as movie nights in the park.
"Having an Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in El Paso is something that has been on our city's wish list for years. We are excited and proud of being able to fulfill this wish for many El Pasoans. We look forward to great films, great restaurant quality food and great Alamo Drafthouse Cinema programming," says Richard Aguilar, partner in EPT Land Communities in the release.
The Alamo Drafthouse Cinema provides a combination of theater and restaurant, showing first-run and independent films along with special event programming, and featuring an extensive menu of foods made from scratch in state-of-the-art culinary kitchens. Additionally, the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema protects the theater experience with a zero tolerance policy for people who disrupt the film with talking or texting. Last year the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema made global news for a viral "Don't Talk" PSA that used a humorously misguided voicemail from an actual patron who was ejected for texting during the film.
