PHILADELPHIA-GlaxoSmithKline told its employees on Tuesday of its latest consolidation plan that involves approximately 1,900 workers being shifted from two facilities in Upper Merion to existing operations in Upper Providence.

The consolidation program by the drug maker will take place over the next two to four years, according to The Inquirer. Glaxo has about 1,650 employees at its Upper Merion East and Upper Merion West facilities. When the consolidation is complete, approximately 400 will remain in the East facility, and the rest will shift to Upper Providence. The Upper Merion West facility has about 1.2 million square feet and probably will be sold, according to Glaxo spokeswoman Melinda Stubbee.

The company currently leases approximately 200,000 square feet in the Renaissance Corporate Center in Upper Merion. The lease there will not be renewed and the approximately 630 employees will move to Upper Providence, company officials say. See story in The Inquirer.
