CHICAGO-A largely vacant public housing complex, a hotel where President Carter once stayed and the former Allstate Insurance headquarters made Preservation Chicago's latest most endangered buildings list.
The preservation group issued this year's endangered list on Tuesday, which included the Guyon Hotel at 4000 W. Washington St., which at one time hosted former President Jimmy Carter and his wife, Rosalynn while they performed work for Habitat for Humanity.
Also on the seven-building list is the former Allstate headquarters building at 3245 W. Arthington St., which Preservation Chicago describes as “a rare example of immediate postwar modern high-rise construction" in the city. The building has been vacant for a number of years. The Lathrop Homes at Clybourn Avenue and Diversey Parkway also made the list. Built during the heart of the Great Depression, the Chicago Housing Authority has been looking to create a mixed-income development on the site. See story in the Chicago Tribune.
