MIAMI—Related Urban on Wednesday broke ground on yet another project. In cooperation with the Opa-locka Community Development Corporation (OLCDC), Related is developing Town Center Apartments, its first affordable housing project in Opa-locka.
"After over a year of collaboration, Related Urban is excited to work in conjunction with OLCDC in building the first transit–oriented development in the city for very low income elderly residents," Albert Milo, principal of Related Urban, tells GlobeSt.com.
Town Center Apartments aims to serve as a redevelopment catalyst for Opa-locka's Downtown District and the first transit-oriented development in the area. The OLCDC, Miami-Dade County Housing Finance Authority, Miami-Dade County Public Housing and Community Development, and Bank of America contributed over $19.5 million in funds for the project.
The development is located within Opa-locka's Downtown District and offers a six-story building with 127 units of elderly affordable housing. The mid-rise gated building is within walking distance to the city's tri-rail station and will serve to implement the city's vision of a transit-oriented Development Corridor.
Located at 551 Fisherman Street in Opa-locka, Town Center Apartments units will have energy-efficient fixtures and appliances and insulated hurricane-impact windows. Amenities include a multi-purpose room, laundry facility, computer and library facility, and park- like landscape setting.
